About Suta
Suta sells handwoven sarees, blouses and ethnic wear, best known for its soft mulmul sarees. Sisters Sujata and Taniya Biswas left corporate careers and started the brand in 2016 with about Rs 6 lakh, and it has stayed bootstrapped since. Suta works with a network of more than 16,000 weavers and artisans across states including West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, paying them on a contractual basis. The brand crossed Rs 75 crore in revenue in FY25, selling through its website, marketplaces and over a dozen of its own stores.

How Sujata Biswas & Taniya Biswas built Suta
Two sisters with no background in textiles quit secure corporate jobs in 2016, pooled a few lakh rupees, and started buying sarees directly from weavers. Bootstrapped throughout, Suta reported revenue of about ₹56 crore in FY2022–23 and works with thousands of weavers across India.
