Women Can Startup is an independent publication built around one thing: long-form, reported biographies of the women founding India’s startups. Each profile follows the same spine, early life, the decision to start, the struggle, how she raised money, how the company grew, and is built from the public record rather than a press release. The stories then feed a searchable Startup Directory and a set of curated collections, so the same founder shows up whether you arrive by name, by sector or by city. Where it is thin: it is a focused catalogue of profiled founders, not an exhaustive census of every woman-led company in the country. YourStory and HerStory

YourStory, founded in 2008 by Shradha Sharma, is one of India’s oldest and largest startup-media platforms. Its women-focused vertical, HerStory, has published interviews and features with women entrepreneurs for well over a decade. The archive is deep and the coverage is current. Because it runs on daily news cadence, individual pieces can lean short and announcement-led, so use it for breadth and for keeping up rather than for one definitive profile.

SheThePeople

SheThePeople, founded by journalist Shaili Chopra, is a women-first digital media platform that covers founders, leaders and changemakers across text, video and live events. Its entrepreneurship coverage sits inside a wider women’s-storytelling remit, which is a strength if you want context beyond startups and a mild limitation if you only want company and funding detail.

Inc42, Entrackr and the startup press

Inc42 and Entrackr cover the Indian startup economy generally, not women founders specifically, but both matter here for one reason: they publish the hard funding numbers and periodic women-led funding reports that the story sites summarise. When you need to check whether a raise actually happened and for how much, this is where you go. The trade-off is obvious: you’re filtering a general firehose for the women-led signal yourself.

Two public initiatives are worth knowing, especially if you are a founder looking to be counted rather than a reader looking to discover.

Startup India and the Women Entrepreneurship Platform

Startup India, run by DPIIT, is the government registry every recognised startup lists on, and it runs a women-entrepreneur section. The Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP), which began at NITI Aayog, is a dedicated portal aggregating schemes, mentorship and resources for women founders. Neither is a browsable “directory of cool startups” in the media sense; they are official infrastructure, best for schemes, recognition and eligibility.

WE Hub

WE Hub, launched by the Government of Telangana in 2018, is India’s first state-led incubator for women entrepreneurs. Its site and programmes surface the women-led ventures it backs, which makes it a useful, if regionally weighted, window into early-stage founders coming through a structured pipeline.
