Last week I talked about The Simple Steps To Create A DIY Website. In this article, I've chosen to write about the Wix Website Builder because it is a website tool that I have extensive knowledge in and use everyday. It’s no surprise that I use Wix to create and host my websites, including this one you are currently on.
But before you decide to choose Wix to create your own website, especially with the so many other website creation platforms that exist, like Squarespace, WordPress, Weebly, Shopify etc. there are a few things you need to know about it.
❈ Drag & Drop - Anywhere & Everywhere
Wix’s editor is purely drag-and-drop, and will revolutionize the way you look and create your website.
Unlike any other other platform that only allows you to add elements to certain sections, and display them in a certain way, you can add whatever it is to your website, be it an image, text or video, wherever you want. This is customisable without any limitations.
In addition to this, you can preview your website in mobile mode and desktop mode. So what you build and see is what you get!
Wix has a huge selection of templates sorted into categories. So if you want to build a blog site, select from a wide range to blog templates. Or if you want to build an online store for selling dog accessories, you have template for that too. You can also sort templates by newest added, popularity, or even by blank templates that allow for greater flexibility if you don’t mind starting from scratch.
If you are building your first website, there is a very good chance that you have little or no knowledge about Search Engine Optimization(SEO).
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the online visibility of a website or a web page in a web search engine's unpaid results—often referred to as "natural", "organic", or "earned" results.
Getting to the top of the google search results is not an easy task, but thankfully, Wix makes it super easy for beginners who have no clue how to optimize their site for search to do so.
One of the best features that Wix offers is the Wix SEO Wizard. It directs you through a series of questions with regard to your site’s general information and keywords, and provides you with a unique SEO plan.
❈ Integration with 3rd party apps
Wix has more than 200 website building and Ecommerce applications that you can integrate to your website. Here is an overview :
Ecommerce : Wix offers about 40 ecommerce apps, including an excellent Site Search plug-in. This integration not only makes it easy for customers to find what they need, but it also keeps you informed about what your customers are searching for. Other great apps include eBay eCommerce and Gift Card.
Blogging : Wix offers a simple one-click blog installation. But if you prefer to stick with your existing blog platform, there are available apps that will import your Blogger or Tumblr blog right into your Wix website.
SEO : The Wix App Market offers nearly a dozen useful SEO apps, including Rabbit SEO, SEO Wizard, and SEO Analytics. With these tools, you can monitor your site’s progress while enhancing the search engine visibility of each page.
Mobile-Friendly : Wix enables you to create mobile-friendly website, and it also offers a fantastic third-party app called My Mobile App. This plug-in enables you to turn your mobile site into an app.
❈ Customer Support
Wix has an extensive customer support including email, phone, forums and a help center, where you can read solutions to frequently asked questions, or post your own and have a community of Wix users answer them.
Wix has a free plan, and then five paid plans starting with the Connect Domain plan at just $9.08 a month (billed yearly).
If you want to sell online choose the $26 a month Ecommerce Plan.
The most popular is the $19.91 a month Unlimited Plan. This gives you unlimited bandwidth, a free domain, site booster and form builder apps, and more. At the highest end of the scale, is the Business VIP plan at $39.91 a month.
But what does this mean? Is Wix good value for money?
The simple answer is, yes! Wix offers lower prices than competitors like Squarespace and Weebly, and has a wider range of features available on its free plan. This means you can create a professional site without using up your life savings!
If you are just starting out and want to have a website ready in limited cost and within a few days, Wix is hands down the best choice. It is user and beginner friendly website builder. The learning curve is practically nonexistent, you can start off with a free plan, and stay on it for as long as you’d like, and then switch to the most affordable paid plan. Wix is my platform of choice, and if I had to create a website from scratch again, I would not hesitate for one second on choosing it once more.
